What are Sexually Transmitted Diseases?

Sexually Transmitted Diseases or STDs are also called as STIs or Sexually Transmitted Infections, or venereal disease which is explained as the infections which spread primarily from person-to-person’s sexual contact. There are more than 30 different types of sexually transmissible bacteria, viruses, or parasites according to WHO. Even few diseases like HIV and syphilis can also be transmitted from mother to child during pregnancy and childbirth, and through blood products or tissue transfer.

There are Common bacterial infections like Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Chlamydia trachomatis, Treponema pallidum, etc., Common viral infections are Human immunodeficiency virus, Herpes simplex virus type 2, or Human papillomavirus or Hepatitis B virus, Cytomegalovirus. Parasite infections such as Trichomonas vaginalis, Candida albicans, etc. There are some STD infections without symptoms.

Common symptoms of STD’s

Sexually Transmitted Infections have some common signs and symptoms such as Sores or bumps on the genitals or oral or rectal area, Discharge from genitals such as from penis or vaginal area, painful or burning urination, sore, swollen lymph nodes situated in the groin regions. These symptoms may occur depending on immunity system.

Causes / Reason for STD

When an individual have an unprotected intercourse, and having some symptoms should contact a doctor. It is advisable both partners should meet doctor.

Harmful effects of Sexually Transmitted Diseases
