Answered by Dr.Geetika : Person with high cholesterol cannot take chywanprash because its a ghee preparation.High cholesterol gets deposited in arteries leads to artherosclerosis.Fatty and fried food to be avoided,groundnut oil must be avoided,butter and buffalo ghee to be avoided.You can consume garlic cloves daily.Arjuna kwath helps in lowering cholesterol.You can take hridyaamrit vati also as it helps in keeping heart healthy.Yoga is helpful in proper circulation and elimination of cholesterol build up in body.You can perform asanas like shalabh asana,padma asana,vajraasana and ardhmatsyendra asana. Question: Pranam I have high cholesterol and began taking Abana 1 tab twice daily. In three months the values have reduced slightly but still high. I am planning to keep a check on my diet too. Please suggest any improvements. Thank You.

Answered by Dr.Ramani : Life style modifications are very much essential to maintain the cholesterol levels. Please continue with Abana which contains Arjuna, Guggulu and Shilajit as the main ingredients. You can also take Varunadi kvath - 15ml with 60ml of warm water before food twice daily along with it. Please send me your lipid profile to guide yo further. Try to maintain the total cholesterol less than 200mg/dl, triglycerides less than 150mg/dl, LDL less than 100mg/dl and HDL to be more than 40mg/dl. It willhelp to avoid any other complication like cardiac problems. Include pepper, garlic, ginger, legumes, horse gram, beans, fenugreek, turmeric and bottle gourd. Reduce excess meat, carbonated beverages, canned foods, oil, sugar, rice and salt. Yogasanas like navasana, baddhakonasana, Supported sarvangasana, paschimottasana, utkadasana, trikonasana, matsyasana, dhanurasana and pavanamuktasana can be practised. Question: Sir, I have stated my recent abnormal blood report as adviced by doctor hereunder:- RDW-SD 56 RDW-SD 15.1 PDW 22.48 MPV 15.5 PLATELET COUNT 140 PCT 0.17 ESR 32 MM/HR 25 -OH VITAMIN D TOTAL 8.85 GGT 110.6 SGOT 37 SGPT 52 TOTAL CHOLESTEROL 255 HDL CHOLESTEROL DIRECT 39 LDL CHOLESTEROL DIRECT 131 TRIGLYCERIDES 425 TC/HDL CHOLESTEROL RATIO 6.6 VLDL CHOLESTEROL 85 NON HDL CHOLESTEROL 215.79 Sir I was advised to take medicine as Ursocad 300, Lipi kind F, Shelcal CT, Vit D 6L ki injection. I am not compatible with allopathic medicine. I am also blood pressure medicine as Tema 40. I take all medicines as directed by physician except Tema 40. I take 1 tab of mukta vati in empty stomach morning. Now my pressure is normal. I want to leave above other said medicines. Answered by Dr.Ramani : The medicines must be continued and they can be tapered based on the results. You can use Ayurvedic herbal medicines for maintenance purpose. Please do have regular checkups. Also please let me know the other investigations to know more and guide you further. Ayurvedic medicines like Varunadi kwath -15ml with 60ml of war water before food twice daily and Guggulhills for cholesterol can be taken along with the other allopathy medications and reviewed after 3months. Include butter milk, sesame, curry leaf, bitter gourd, soya beans, cinnamon, fenu greek, horse gram, ginger, dark green leafy vegetables, bottle gourd and avocados. Reduce excess refined flour, cold refrigerated foods, fried foods, meat, canned foods, sugar and salt. Yogasanas like navasana, marajaryasana, utkadasana, dhanurasana, pavanamuktasana, paravatasana, paschimottasana, mayurasana, supported sarvangasana and trikonasana are beneficial. Regular exercise is vital for a good health and controlled lipid levels.

Question: Sir, my moms have s.triglycerides count 274 & s.cholesterol is 164, now her age is 49 yrs, pls help out that which ayurvedic medicine and treatment should we take to reduce s.triglycerides

Answered by Dr.Ramani : Please let me know the lipid profile to guide you further. The triglycerides must be below 150mg/dL. Please check the lipid profile regularly as advised by your physician. Increased triglycerides will affect the function of the liver and a high lipid profile will cause cardiac complications if left uncontrolled. Include flax seeds, garlic, ginger, legumes, horse gram, beans, fenugreek, turmeric and bottle gourd. Reduce excess meat, canned foods, oil, sugar, rice and salt. Question: Respected, My mother has problem of anal fissure which was cured after taking medicine. However, she has wart in her anal opening since 24 years which was not painful. Answered by Dr.Ramani : The fissure leaves sentinel tag which is a small oedomatous fibrosed tissue. Anal wart is seen due to a viral infection with Human pappilloma virus. So please do have clinical examination with your nearest doctor and further investigations can be done based on the examination. It is necessary to have good hygiene to avoid infections. Surgery will be advised based on the size and the symptoms. Ayurvedic medicines like Gandharva hastadi kvath - 15ml with 60ml of warm water before food twice daily, Kaisora guggulu and Triphala Churna can be taken to ease the bowel movements and to reduce the anal mass. Sitting in a bath tub with warm water helps to relieve the discomfort and reduces the stiffness of the anal muscles. Include horse gram, yam, fiber, complex carbohydrates, legumes, prunes, figs, raisins and green mung dal. Reduce excess canned foods, caffeine, sugar, salt and oil. As it is a metabolic problem, it cannot be cured completely. It must be managed with healthy eating and exercise. Answered by Dr.Sony : Hello, From the investigation report given here, it is clear that you will have to start ayurvedic treatment to regulate cholesterol. Piles too has found solution in ayurveda which shall be explained. Here i shall suggest you medicines and home remedies for both cholesterol and piles as an initial line of treatment. Divya medohara vati - This medicine shall be taken 1 tab twice daily for the first week. On the second week increase it to 1 tab thrice daily. Follow this for upto a month. Triphala guggulu - CXonsume this tab with warm water at a dosage of 2 tab twice daily for the first two weeks followed by 2 tab thrice daily for the next 2 weeks. Chiruvilwadi kashayam tab - 2 tab shall be taken twice daily an hour before food with warm water. Include diet which is rich in fiber content in your diet.

Answered by Dr.Ramani : Lipomas are generally smaller than 5cm and is composed of fatty tissue. There will be many lipoms found predominantly in the extremities or trunk in familial lipomatosis. It occurs mostly due to a heredity problem with genetic mutation. It causes a cosmetic concern and advanced treatments like liposuction can be considered to remove it completely. Please consult a qualified surgeon who will be able to guide you better., Ayurvedic medicines like Guggulu tiktaka kvath - 15ml with 60ml of warm water before food twice daily and Divya Kanchnar Guggulu can be taken for 3months and review. Triphala Churnam can be taken every night which will clear constipation. Include horsegram, cinnamon, plantain pith, bottle gourd, ginger, eggs, soya, garlic, pepper and turmeric. Avoid excess canned foods, oil, refined flour, sweets and fried fatty foods. Try to keep your weight under control to prevent further new ones.
