Question: Dear Doctor,i m 32 yr old Female. since 2009 i am suffering from abodimonal pain.many times need to go to toilet every 15 minutes following loose motion there is mucus and sometimes fresh blood if i put pressure after frequent bowel movements. last year after sever stomach pain i had to remove appendics. after appedics lab report it suggested croahns disease. i did colonoscopy, endoscopy, ct scan. it suggest same, also endoscopy shows some gastritis. i have been taking pentasa tablets and probiotic tablets. still i have frequent abdominal pain. and always consitipation or loose motion. please help me to feel better...i need your help.

Answered by Dr.Ramani : Crohns disease is an autoimmune condition that causes inflammation in the ileum. In some of them it diagnosed after a very bad food intolerance or poisoning. Ayurvedic medicines can be taken to reduce the symptoms by improving the digestion and also by healing the inflammation. Medicines must be taken whenever there are flareups to avoid complications. Medicines like Mustakaranjadi kvath - 15ml with 60ml of warm water before food twice daily, Sooktyn for Hyperacidity and Vilvadi lehyam - 1tsp before food morning and night can be taken for a month and then reviewed. Include turmeric, buttermilk, ginger, curry leaf and mung dal soup. Reduce excess sweet, salt, canned foods, spicy foods and carbonated beverages. Try to reduce stress, sleep well and eat healthy easily digestable foods. Practise Yogasanas like Vajrasana, Savasana, Surya namaskaram, Pranayamam and meditation to strengthen the mind which is better for a good physical and mental health.

Question: Sir, I am 34yrs of age, male, married and is being found of ulcer in colon since 2009. I was taking allopathy for 2 yrs. and I was ok then. But after 6 months symptoms like constipation, presence of blood and pus in stool were found. Then I have taken haemopathy. But no relief was seen. At last I had visited gasteroenterologist and he had examined me. After colonscopy, it was found that I have been suffering from ulcer in colon and somewhat ileum together with small piles in rectum. I have burning sensation near anus, sometimes blood in stool. I am taking allopathy since 4 months again. Doctor told me that I have symptoms of Crohn's Disease but not 100% sure. I have been taking ROWASA 500 mg and bacterial medicine for digestion. I have started arshkalp vati 2 tabs twice daily from last 4 days. I have seen no blood in my stool. I want to cure myself. I am doing yoga. Iwant yoga CD for this disease and medicine. My weight is 50 kgs. and height is 5ft 6 inch. I am on simple diet. Taking 1 LT of yoghurt everyday and rice in my meal with dal and vegetables. I have huge gas problem. If you will require my diagnostic report then I will send it you. Please favour. Answered by Dr.Ramani : In Crohn's disease inflammation is seen in the ileum. The inflammation can also be seen in other parts of the intestine. As there is an autoimmune response, there will be occasional flareups. It has to be treated immediately with the necessary medicines. Healthy eating will help to avoid the frequent flareups. Ayurvedic medicines can be taken to heal the ulcer in the intestine and also which will reduce the piles also. Package for ulcerative colitis medicine can be taken for a month and then reviewed. It will also help to improve the digestion and hence will reduce the bloating. You can also continue Divya Arshkalp Vati. Dabur Pudin Hara can be taken whenever necessary to relieve the bloating. Include kiwi fruit, licorice, goose berry, drumstick leaves, beet root, cabbage, spinach and mung dal. Avoid excess spicy foods, sugar, salt, caffeine and spicy foods. Practise Yogasanas like vajrasana, padmasana, shavasana, Pranayamam and Meditation which will be beneficial.

Also AMBIMAp will help reduce mucous and improve the digestion etc. Take lassi regularly to improve the digestion.meals ony at regular timings. Question: I am a 37 year old man who had Crohn disease for 18 years without any problems I'm a little overweight and I have only 23 cm rectum and colon. I've also have removed 50 cm of small intestine In May I was diagnosed with pain full fistula I would like to hear with products you recommend that I can eat to get rid of the fistula. Answered by Dr.Vijay : Hello, As you have history of Crohn disease and as you know Crohn's disease is pertaining to gastrointestinal system where inflammation occurs to the intestines frequently due to which, you may be suffering from fistula as complication. Since you are suffering from this illness since 18 years and have undergone surgeries too. Due to inflammatory bowel disorders, there are chances of fistula. In order to heal fistula, your bowel habits should get normalized. Hence, you need to follow regular diet, and can follow balanced diet and combination of therapies that include ayurveda, siddha, homeopathy, and other system of medicines that helps you to get rid from fistula and its complications. Question: Dear Sir, My younger brother is suffering from crohn disease from last 4 yrs, earlier he took doctors advice and some allopathic medicines but nothing was working on him, After 2 yrs he started doing Yoga and took medicines from patanjali yog peeth (Vashi) for 1.6 yrs. He was feeling good and with the advice from doctor of patanjali yog peeth (Ghatkopar - Mumbai) he discontinued all the ayurvedic medicines. But from last 3 months all his problem started again. Is there any permanent cure for Crohn Disease? How can he get rid of Crohn disease completely?

Answered by Dr.Sony : Hello, Crohn's disease is not clearly mentioned in ayurveda. It however can be corelated to an extend to a condition known as Grahani which is curable. Here patient will have to undergo strict dietery regimen. It shall be noted that permanent cure for crohn's disease shall be obtained only if food regimen is followed even after withdrawal of ayurvedic medicine for a specific period of time. This is chiefly to make body adjustable to the change happened in the system. Here i shall suggest you certain medicines which you can follow as an initial line of treatment. Ashtachoornam - This medicine in powder form shall be taken at a dosage of 1 tsp with warm water twice daily. It shall be preferably taken after food. Bahushala gulam - This medicated jam shall be taken at a dosage of 1 tsp at night after food. Follow this for 2 weeks and can have a review.

Question: Sir I am suffering from Crohn's past 1.5 years. Colonoscopy diagnosed ulcers and inflamation in intestine. Weight reduced to 48 kg from 86 ( almost 40 kg ), muscle wasting, joint pains, chest pain and unable to walk freely. Allopathy proves not help. Pls help

Answered by Dr.Sharma : Dear Guest Crohn's disease affects the colon and intestine causing inflammation also, this could be due to some mental problems also or physical which cause Inflammation and irregular intestine movement, in your case it looks like because of Vata [vayu] and pitta[ garmi] , they need to be balanced, You must take BEL SHARBAT and Lassi regularly and you will be thrilled to see thier benefits. also meal should be regular and simple ,not even a single time you should not eat Unwhole some food. Question: Hi doctor, I am 29 years old woman. I live in Australia. I suffered from indigestion and vomiting (of yellow,and green colour,stomach pain bloating, burning sensation etc. The doctors here suggested me to go for an endoscopy and clonoscopy test. After that I was diagnosed with Crohns disease. The doctor said there is no cure for this disease it can only be subsided. My question to you is, is there any cure in Ayurveda for this disease.

Answered by Dr.Sony : Hello, In ayurveda crohn's disease can be correlated to two disease conditions such as "Kshathodara" and "Grahani". Definitive treatment principle is explained for this condition as well. Here i suggest you certain home remedies and change in dietery habit which you can follow as an initial line of treatment. Try your best to avoid all sorts of fatty , greasy and oily food. Fast food today is seen to be one of the key factors responsible for crohn's disease. Condiments, spices, seasoning or sauces shall be avoided at its best. White sugar and all white flour products are extremely harmful to the body. Relax after each meal as rest is very important. Try to have good sleep. Take the powder of bael fruit with equal quantity of jaggery thrice daily. Decoction prepared out of pomogranate and holerrhana antidysentrica shall be taken at a dose of 3 teaspoon with honey. This shall be taken twice daily. Follow these instruction and follow up after a period of 3 weeks.

Question: Hello, My father who is 62 years old has glioblastoma right thalamus detected and we have done his operation. His chemotherapy will start tomorrow. He also has intestinal obstruction crohn's disease. Please explain his treatment in ayurveda.

Answered by Dr.Ramani : Glioblastoma is a primary aggressive form of brain tumour. Surgery, radiation and chemotherapy are advised. So please continue with the chemotherapy as advised by your doctor. There are chances for recurrence if there will be any remnants. Your father can take Divya Vriddhivaadhika Vati and Aswagnadha lehyam - 1tsp before food twice daily for a month and reviewed. These medicines will help to prevent the recurrence. Regarding Crohn's disease, the inflammation of the intestine tend to cause intestinal obstruction. So please have regular checkups and follow the advise of your treating physician based on the obstruction. Ayurvedic medicines like Indukantha kvath - 15ml with 60ml of warm water before food twice daily and Triphala Churna can be taken which will help to reduce the symptoms. Include turmeric, cinnamon, bottle gourd, garlic, cumin and ginger. Reduce excess canned foods, sugar, salt, refined flour and oil. Help him take good rest and to have sufficient sleep. Please do continue with the regular checkups.

Question: I am currently taking udar Amrit vati for stomach and diahrea. Alot of pain on passing stool.I am also taking shatawari and chandraprabha for frequent urine infections.I have been on this medication fir 6 months. But now I have had a my hospital examination which says I have inflammation in my bowel area. They say i have ibs but needs further investigating as I could have crohns. Answered by Dr.Vijay : Hello, As they are suspecting IBS or irritable bowel syndrome or Crohn's disease which has to be properly analyzed and by now, you might have got diagnosed for the condition. In your case, after going through all the details, it is better to follow some medications which are highly indicated for IBS. With irrespective of the origin, it is better to keep a good control in diet and follow proper medications accordingly. Avoid food items that may aggravate your problem of bowels. As you have milk intolerance, there are less milk products which you are missing. Question: I am Sarala, age 43 yrs, female, suffering from GERD, Esophagitis, PAN gastritis,hiatal hernia and hypothyroidism for past 4 yrs. Though I suffered from acid reflux since 2013, an endoscopy done last yr confirmed these problems. I was put on pantoprazole 40 mg in the morning and Pantocid IT at night. But though the medicines suppress the symptoms temporarily they come back in a worse manner.i have started homeopathy treatment along with allopathy. But am suffering a lot. I am constipated. My urine output is normal. My appetite is ok but if my stomach is bloated I don't feel hungry.I used to do yoga but ever since 5 discs were found prolapsed in my cervical area in 2011, for which I wore a hard collar for long, I stopped doing yoga. My sleep at night is very poor as I lie awake past midnight.i have undergone tonsillectomy a few yrs back. I have a lot of mental stress. In fact I had taken some ayurvedic medicines for my cervical problem which were highly acidic and after that these stomach problems started. My mother suffers from Crohns disease and is also on medication for intestinal TB since last year. She is diabetic, hypertensive and has mild cardiac issues. I am single and look after her. My periods are regular. I eat purely vegetarian food that is not very oily or spicy. I do not have diabetes or hypertension. Do you cure the problems I am suffering from? If you do, kindly help me. Try to reduce the brassica group of vegetables like cabbage, cauliflower but can be taken sparingly for their health benefits.
